First, some definitions I collected online, in no particular order:
- A person who craves media attention; someone who will apparently do anything to remain in the media spotlight.
- A media figure who will throw their mom under a bus and then sell her soul to get a ratings high.
- A person who has a psychological need to get into TV, Film, Radio or Print.
- Someone with an almost pathological need to be on TV, for most part blocked since very few would pay to see him or her. The 21st Century is made for someone like this, where no talent, and worst of all, no brains, is not a block to getting on TV somehow, somewhere.
- One who seeks attention by any means necessary.
- Someone who brings nothing to the party but their own ego and a tendency to hog the microphone and photo opportunity
Does this bring anyone in particular to mind?
Perhaps you recall someone’s 21-hour non-filibuster a few weeks ago about a dead issue that had already been voted on 40+ times and was not even up for another vote.
Perhaps you might have noticed someone’s recent spotlight grab around a trial and gun-related issue that he had no actual role in and said it wasn’t about race then when on to say that “blacks cite stand your ground laws at least as often as whites”, but that’s not introducing race into the conversation.
Perhaps you heard about someone who continually rings in on women’s health issues related to their uteri when he doesn’t even have one.
Perhaps you read about someone’s statement regarding a certain former VP who shot a certain lawyer buddy on a hunting trip and shrugged it off with an “it happens” comment.
Perhaps you read about some claims that came out on the not-so-fast end of the Truth-O-Meter regarding the Affordable Care Act, or the pants-on-fire ones when he said the Democrats told the Catholic Church that they’ll use federal powers to shut down church charities and hospitals if the church doesn’t change its beliefs, or that Chuck Hagel’s nomination as defense secretary was “publicly celebrated by the Iranian government”, or that Obama “began his presidency going on a worldwide apology tour.” Oldies but goodies, right?
You can’t make this stuff up, but he sure can, and DOES, every chance he gets so he can be in the media spotlight. Media Whore.
When will it end?
When we stop paying attention to him, vote him the hell out of office, or recall him for being stupid in a no-stupid zone and embarrassing the good people of the State of Texas.
These people make my ass twitch.
